Donate your used goods to a thrift store!

We are saddened to hear that donations are down at a Salvation Army thrift store in Rolla Missouri. They think it could be because a lot of on-street clothing donation drop boxes have popped up recently. Hopefully this does not become a trend! Those drop boxes are usually for profit.

We urge you to donate all of your used clothing to your local thrift store, do not put it into one of those drop boxes. That is most likely not a charitable donation! Often times the clothing from drop boxes are sold to people in other countries for profit. One such company was sued a few years back in Connecticut for misleading people.

The final word is, unless you know a lot about the company operating the drop box, assume it’s not thrift-friendly and doesn’t deserve your business!

  1. hmm. donations still look really big here, but it’s more mild in Seattle. I wonder if this trend will continue when it get warmer or if it’s money related.
