Jeff Herman is a man that has a mission. Herman is an attorney and advocate for individuals that have been victims of sexual abuse, rape, or sexual exploitation. Recently, Jeff Herman has been in the news for his representation of a young man who that claims to have been sexually abused by a Reverend.

 

Herman is representing his client in a Civil Suit Against Catholic Diocese of Allentown, PA and Reverend Monsignor Francis Nave. The civil suit claims that Reverend Monsignor Francis Nave took advantage of Herman’s client when he was just 16 years old. According to an article there are pictures which provide evidence of the Reverend taking advantage of the young teenager. Herman revealed that the sexually exploitation occurred in 2012 when the young teenager was in a depressed state. Knowing of the young teenager’s mental state, Monsignor used the mental state and his position to get closer to the young boy. Monsignor revealed to the teenager that part of his role was to be there for individuals that were going through various problems. He gained the young boy’s trust by becoming a listening ear. The trust that was gained by the Reverend resulted in the young boy being convinced to engage in sexual activity via FaceTime and Skype.

 

Though Jeff Herman is focused on his client receiving justice in the form of monetary restitution, he also wants to protect other young ones. One less sexual victimizer will be exposed and not able to victimize anyone else.

All About Dick DeVos

There are a lot of people looking at the DeVos family. Recently, Dick DeVos became the latest appointment on the FAA’s Management Advisory Council. He joins 12 others on the board who come from transportation official backgrounds and airline executive offices. Most on the board will help with policies and regulations, but others with business acumen are helping with budgets and future growth plans. Devos is one of those people who can help with both.

 

He has been working alongside airlines for quite some time, including executives from Southwest and Air Tran Airways. It was in the early 2000s that DeVos began talking to Air Tran about expanding the destinations at the local airport. He wanted to help the CEO of the Gerald R. Ford Airport at the time, who was trying to expand and grow the airport from what it once was.

 

While many people don’t realize it, Devos has also always been a pilot. He has trained and gotten multiple licenses to operate different aircraft, including jets and helicopters. That knowledge and connection has come in handy when he has needed to work with different airlines. For example, in the latest renovation of the airport, the new areas include a business traveler center, food court, and new technology in the terminals.

 

The whole point is to create a better atmosphere for travelers who want to get to where they are going, while also having more convenience and comfort built in. There is also a school founded by the DeVos Family that remains on the grounds of the airport, knowing as the West Michigan Academy. This school helps train students to become pilots, so that they can work as a pilot or join the aviation industry in some other way, perhaps as a flight operator.

 

The school is apart of DeVos’ plan to help Grand Rapids in several areas, including with unemployment and economy. The city had reached a stagnant period in the 1990s. DeVos had seen the devastation caused by certain city planning mistakes for Detroit, and he wanted to avoid that in Grand Rapids. He worked with business leaders in downtown to create better industry and build up community buildings, as well as entertainment centers to bring more people downtown.

Dick DeVos Gives To Charities But Also Changes The Direction Of His City

Grand Action, a group of business executives in Michigan, which is credited with changing the skyline of Grand Rapids was formed through the initiatives of Dick DeVos. This group was initially established in 1991 to prevent the construction of a sports complex and convention plaza in the city.

 

 

Apparently, Dick got hold of the news that this project was already on the drawing boards and he does not want it to progress. Why? He doesn’t want Grand Rapids to suffer the same fate that downtown Detroit experienced when the Detroit Pistons and the Detroit Lions abandoned the city for another more suitable place for their headquarters.

 

 

When the two professional sports club left Detroit, their two home courts, the Palace of Auburn Hills and the Pontiac Silverdome were standing idly, with no sports fans to serve. That left Detroit hanging with an empty bag. And this wouldn’t happen with Grand Rapids, Dick DeVos thought. He spiritedly worked against the project, calling business associates and exercising his political clout to block the construction of the project.

 

 

Now Grand Rapids has a different skyline, thanks to the work done by Dick. This incident helped to prove that Dick is an active agent of change. This approach in life is shared by his wife, Betsy. Both belong to well-heeled families in Michigan, being major donors of the Republican Party. At the time Dick was fighting against the sports arena project, he was on his way to being the CEO of his family-owned Amway Corp., a well-known retailer of consumer items all over the world.

 

 

Currently, he belongs to the civilian panel that supervises the activities of the Federal Aviation Administration. Dick is not actually new to this job being an experienced pilot. His inclusion in the panel was announced by Elaine L. Chao, the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation on Sept. 28, 2017.

 

 

Dick is now working with the Management Advisory Council which is composed of 13 members, seven of which are civilians like himself. The council is giving advice to the senior management of FAA regarding regulatory matters, long-term planning, spending and policy. Gregory Martin, FAA spokesman said that collectively, the council charts the agency’s strategic course.

 

 

Dick, together with other appointees to the council, will be given three years to server their terms. They are not required to relinquish their other private and public sector positions. The council meets every quarter to discuss important matters relating to the FAA and whatever is on their agenda.

 

 

Dick and his wife Betsy are also busy with their charitable works. Their DeVos Family Foundation has reportedly granted $138.7 million to various interests such as arts and culture, policy initiatives focused on educational reform, leadership programs, scholarships for private schools, churches, and health and human services. The two have also given donations amounting to $12.5 to Grand Rapids towards the construction of a children’s hospital under the Spectrum Health System. The hospital was named after the mother of Dick, Helen DeVos. This hospital has provided many conveniences to the poor parents of its children patients.
